Recognized internationally as a pioneer in the field of digital art, Shu Lea Cheang began her career working with activist media collective Paper Tiger TV and Deep Dish TV. She developed a distinctive effects-based video-editing style and began producing art for the internet. In 1999 her installation entitled Brandon: A One Year Narrative Project in Installments became one of the first netart pieces to be commissioned by the Guggenheim Museum. Her recent projects have included I.K.U., a feature length cyber-sex science-fiction film which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and Garlic=Rich Air, a netart project investigating material-based social networks which was presented in the "Zone of Urgency" at the 2003 Venice Biennale.
